MBO Partners Mobile Application

The MBO mobile application supports independent contractors (IC) in a variety of industries. When approaching the redesign it was important to take into account the varying environments in which the ICs would use this app (i.e. desk job vs truck driver) and the frequency they would use it. To define success, we wanted to focus on three areas: the app’s ease of use, flexibility in entering time for timesheets and confirmation feedback to instill confidence users’ time cards have been submitted. The final product was released on both iOS and Android.

Flow for entering time

OVERVIEW

  • The different use cases that an IC could enter time include clocking in and out on a daily basis, entering time in real-time, or entering time retroactively (if an IC needs to modify/forgot to enter, etc.).

  • The app defaults to the current date, but I designed the view so a user can scroll forward or backwards to enter their time (per unique time entry scenarios listed above).

  • Some ICs, have various charge codes or ways to account for their time within a single project. To account for this, the first screen depicts the view for an IC that is involved with multiple projects at one time.

The importance of alerts

DENIED ENTRIES

  • The MBO app facilitates an IC getting paid; therefore we wanted denied entries to be noticeable and actionable

  • The app was designed so that once a user clicks on an alert they are taken to the specific entry

  • We also implemented a link to the business manager’s email who can rectify or clarify the error

Submitting Hours

VISUAL CONFIRMATION

  • To instill confidence that an IC’s work had been approved, I implemented green check marks on the day tiles as well as charge code lines

  • Once a user taps submit the charge code lines are inactive so a user can’t modify once submitted
